Welo Black Opal Sterling Silver Pendant
The Black Opal cabochons we work with are from Wollo, Ethiopia. In the early 2000's an opal deposit was found in the Wollo province of Ethiopia. The opal from the Wollo Province is some of the best quality opal ever found in Ethiopia. It is referred to as “Welo” or “Wello,” opal and it has become very popular in jewelry making. Ethiopian opal that is properly cut and highly polished on all surfaces is very stable. It is hydrophane opal and therefore it is absorbent. Any kind of contaminate including body oils, hairsprays and lotions should be avoided. Your Ethiopian Opal Jewel should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.

Welo Black Opal Sterling Silver Pendant #0404
Handmade by Richard Bolger with a top quality Welo Black Opal cabochon.
“The Pendants and Earrings I make are crafted from Sterling Silver wire using natural stones, crystals, cut stones and carvings. It all started over 30 years ago when I made my first “wirewrapped” pendant with a Herkimer Diamond. I select each Herkimer Diamond, Moldavite, Fossil, Meteorite and Semi-precious Stone that is set into these handmade Jewels. Herkimer Diamonds are one of my favorites. I use them often in combination with other Crystals, Fossils, Moldavite and space rocks to create unique Jewels with an emphasis on Herkimer Diamond Crystals.”
