Herkimer Diamond Quartz Crystals

A Herkimer Diamond is a natural water-clear, double-terminated Quartz crystal. These naturally faceted quartz crystals only come from the Mohawk Valley in central New York. Herkimers are bright and highly refractive - usually with 18 natural facets. Herkimer Diamonds sometimes have inclusions of fossilized carbon sea-plant remains called anthraxollite.

The Herkimer Diamonds we offer are from Middleville, and also Little Falls, N.Y. Middleville is known for producing some of the most clear and pristine Herkimer Diamond specimens. We also have crystals from Diamond Mountain in Little Falls which produces Herkimer crystals with unusual habits and most importantly produces the Herkimer Diamond Scepters. We have mined both locations and now we collaborate with the current miners and owners of these mines.

Herkimer Diamonds are a specialty of ours.

It is where our crystal and meteorite business started. Herkimers are world renowned and recognized as some of the finest quartz crystals on the planet. They sometimes form as large clustered groups or perfect single crystals. We use them in our jewelry as accent stones and also as earrings. We also make Herkimer Diamond pendants in sterling silver (or in 14 karat gold upon request). One of the things we love about Herkimer Diamonds besides their unparalleled clarity and brilliance is how when the sun hits a herkimer diamond just right it becomes a prism and projects rainbows!

Mining Herkimer Diamonds is dangerous and strenuous work, which of course directly affects the price. For starters you need plenty of time and muscle. The sedimentary fossilized Dolomite limestone that holds the Herkimer Diamonds is some of the hardest rock in America. Herkimer diamond mining is painstakingly slow work, mostly done by hand.
