Intarsia or 'Pietre dure'

Meaning "hard stone", and sometimes known as "Florentine mosaic", this is intricate inlay work from thin pieces of coloured stone. The pieces are cut to fit together perfectly and then polished creating a beautiful landscape with a rising rodochrosite sun. This pendant is a mini mosaic of solid malachite inlayed with opal, rodochrosite, azurite, paua shell, onyx, petrified wood and other semi precious stones, polished in place. Set in sterling silver with a natural quartz crystal.

The approximate weight is 10.2 grams. The size is 45 x 25 millimeters. Wrapped in sterling silver wire.
