Morganite is a member of the beryl family like aquamarine and emeralds. It is a very hard gemstone and this is an extraordinarily large cabochon of this rare stone from Brazil. Morganite was named after J.P. Morgan the banker and important renowned gemstone collector, by Tiffany & Co.'s "chief gemologist" in the early 1900s.
Morganite is also known as Pink Emerald.
