Natural Fossils from around the globe

Fossils are simply the remains of ancient life. Plants, Bugs, Fish, Birds, and even people leave fossils. Amber is fossil tree sap. Fossils can be a record of a sudden catastrophic event like a volcano, or simply a shell turned to stone in sedimentary layers of limestone formed by ancient sea beds. Fossils are found everywhere, from Africa to upstate N.Y. The study of fossils is called paleontology. Dictionary.com defines palentology as "The study of the forms of life existing in prehistoric or geologic times, as represented by the fossils of plants, animals, and other organisms."
